Bananas Foster French Toast/Fr vanilla creme sauceOlde World Bed And Breakfast, Dover Ohio Linda Stroup, InnkeeperThis is a great make ahead casserole in the spirit of New Orleans. 3 very ripe bananas 12 slices of any white bread 10 eggs, beaten 1 3/4 cup heavy creme 1 tbls vanilla 6 tbls brown sugar chopped pecans( at least a 1/2 cup) to taste 3/4 cup melted butter Cinnamon to taste place 6 bread slices in a greased 9x13 baking dish. In a bowl mix eggs and heavy creme, and vanilla. Pour half of mixture over the bread. Place chopped bananas evenly on each slice to form a "pocket", top each pocket with brown sugar,and chopped pecans. Pour melted butter evenly over each pocket to saturate. Top each slice with the remaining bread slices. Pour remaining egg mixture over the bread. Top with cinnamon to taste. Wrap with clear plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Bake dish at 375 for 45min. or until set. let the dish sit for 5 min. before serving with warm french vanilla creme sauce. Recipe below. heat in a saucepan, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup heavy creme, and 1 cup white karo syrup. Heat until well blended, stirring occasionally. Do not boil. This syrup can be made ahead as well and reheated. makes 6 sandwich size servings. |
