Angel's Lair B&B Description:
The house was built in 1883 for Judge Thomas E. Webster. It is nestled between two very large 1800's churches. On the adjacent property is the Trinity Episcopal Church where the Websters attended Sunday services. Mr. Webster donated a beautiful alter in memory of his first wife after she died. The Webster family owned the home for over 60 years. In the early 1940's it was sold and converted to a girl's boarding house. Around 1949 it was then converted into three apartments that were decommissioned in the mid-sixties. When Dan and Linda bought the house in 2000 it had been empty for over three years. The kitchenettes were still partially functional and the house had been sorely neglected for quite some time. After four years and thousands of hours of TLC, Linda & Dan have restored the grandeur of this Eastlake-style Victorian home. If you appreciate unique architecture, you will fall in love with this house! There is a peace and calm here that will soothe you and help you recharge your weary soul. Starting at noon and throughout the day, you can hear church bells and a Carol-inn playing beautiful tunes of old from City Hall. The Angel's Lair is located only six city blocks from the river and the downtown area which boasts of nearly 100 novelty and antique shops for your enjoyment. ….Then there's the story of the 10-foot angel on the roof…..but, you'll have to come and talk to Dan about that. We hope to hear from you soon.
The house was sorely neglected and was surrounded by overgrown shrubbery and sun-baked paint and wood on all the gable ends. It took nearly two years to repair all of the wood, windows and landscaping to bring the outside back to an acceptable level. The foundation is still being repaired due to all of the water, snow and wind damage from the overgrown foliage.
