Whitehurst was originally constructed in 1822, as a modest home for the Quaker founder of the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company, Josiah White. After becoming the second manager, Edwin Douglas, doubled the square footage of the house by adding a parlor and a wrap-around porch. The third manager, John Leisenring, renovated the house in Italianate styling similar to the Asa Packer Mansion. I found the Whitehurst Inn to be very charming and down to earth. My top floor room was very clean, cozy and private. It was much like a small apartment and being the guest in someones home. Great if you just want to get away from it all, yet still want to feel like a part of the town and it's residents! Thank you for your hospitality Whitehurst Inn!
