Pennsbury Inn Bed & Breakfast Description:
"The historically prominent Pennsbury Inn is a Brandywine Valley Bed and Breakfast inn." " In the heart of the Brandywine Valley, this bed and breakfast offers exceptional accommodations for your trip to Pennsylvania." The Pennsbury Inn is situated on eight acres of sculptured grounds bordered by woodland trails, offering privacy for special events such as wedding receptions, anniversary dinners, bridal showers, corporate and business meetings and catered parties."This Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania Bed and Breakfast is only minutes from Delaware and the city of Philadelphia." On acreage purchased from Wm. Penn's Commissioners in the 17th Century, Pennsbury Inn's original dwelling house, erected in 1714 of Brandywine Blue Granite rubble stone, was enlarged mid-century by a stone addition of surpassing proportions with the front facade clad in hand-molded Flemish Bond brick. A 19th Century clapboard extension housed both coachman quarters and beehive bake oven. A 20th Century addition contains a garden view dining area. Located just five minutes from Longwood Gardens, The Pennsbury Inn is a lovely and comfortable country house, with seven sumptuous bedrooms and private baths. All of the guest rooms have feather beds, telephones, cable television and lovely private bathrooms. Many rooms have decorative fireplaces with electric firestove insterts.
Downstairs there is a large garden room with huge open fireplace, library, music room and private conference room on 8 acres of landscaped grounds. Built mostly in 1714 and 1749 on land purchased from William Penn's commissioners in 1681, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a large but cozy retreat with uneven floorboards, slanted doorways, winding staircases and huge open fireplaces. Our gardens are planted with an assortment of perennials and annuals, including climbing roses on trellises and ornamental trees and shrubs. There is a reflecting pool and a smaller fish pond, as well as some melodic fountains scattered throughout the grounds, in addition to many enchanting little outdoor groupings of furniture for private “tete a tetes”. There are also still signs here and there of the Pennsbury Inn’s intriguing 289-year history that we love to point out. All of this is on our landscaped four acres, and there are an additional four acres of wooded grounds, full of wildflowers and trails adjacent. Besides Longwood Gardens, the world's premiere garden, we're within a short distance of the Brandywine River Museum with the Wyeth family's art, Winterthur, a Dupont mansion and museum dedicated to American fine arts, the Brandywine Battlefield, home to the largest Revolutionary War battle and many, many more attractions. A stay at the Pennsbury Inn is one of beauty, relaxation and history. Come let us pamper you.
