Shaker Woods Farm at Point Comfort Description:
Your hosts, Eva and Jack, are building their dream farm, with a bed and breakfast furnished from their world-wide Air Force assignments. Nestled against the woods on a quiet road, Shaker Woods Farm B&B features private bedrooms with private baths. Spend an afternoon cross-country skiing or antiquing, then make a cup of tea in the guest's convenience kitchen and relax on the sun porch that looks out onto Point Comfort at Lake Winnisquam, the Canterbury Shaker's 1920's summer retreat. Take a look at us in spring/summer, or fall* or winter or what we looked like in 1997.
Shaker Woods Farm's guests have come from many diverse places. The working farm at Shaker Woods Farm continues into it's eighth year. In early November, we gave a farm tour to the students from the Winnisquam Regional Ag Center. In February 2005, we were chosen as a "New Hampshire Farm of Distinction" by the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food. Here's a shot of our organic fruit and vegetable garden and the pastures beyond. The dairy goats are kidding, again. On 9 April, one year old Kilo delivered a doe, Mini. Sophie, our female standard poodle did her best to adopt Mini. On tax day, 15 April, Dell, had twins, Nano and Seben, being held by Katharine and Erik, guests in the hostel.
Java delivered triplets on 4 May but one buck was stillborn. Unfortunately on 6 May we found the doe kid had died during the night. We separated the remaining buck, Acht, to bottle feed him. Megan and her mom were here to take a soapmaking class for Megan's 4-H project--Megan started Acht on a bottle. Annie, our neighbor's quarter horse, will be back for the summer. She should have her friends, Molly and Tackle, to help her "herd" the goats.
