Built in 1883 for Stillwater's first Jeweler, the Elephant Walk is today a jewel box of antiquities and collectibles from all over the world. The stick style Victorian has been lovingly restored by Rita and Jon Graybill following their return from Bangkok, Thailand. The Graybill's collections from over twenty years diplomatic service are displayed throughout the Elephant Walk and includes antiques from Europe, the Far East and America. The home is graced by two parlors on the first floor, one with a large fireplace. A wrap around front porch provides casual dining and a quiet place to unwind on the porch swing and accompanying ...
Stayed at the Elephant Walk for 2 glorious days! I was in town for a wedding and treated myself to the B&B. I'm so glad I did! Rita is a wonderful hostess. She is a world traveler (along with partner Mike) and spins a wonderful tale of places like Vietnam, Thailand, etc. The B&B is chock full of wonderful items from all over the world and you find yourself browsing through them for hours! The garden is beautiful but the rooms are the best. Private, quiet, inviting and relaxing. I am planning my next visit to Stillwater and will make the Elephant Walk my first stop!

The Elephant Walk is a wonderful B&B. The house and rooms are beautiful. The breakfast was absolutely exquisite, and if our stay was any indication there are always fellow guests that are interesting and engaging.
Highly recommended for ANY type of traveler, young couples, old couples, single people who need a break for the big city..anyone would enjoy it. In addition, it is a great value.

Rita and Mike have created an atmosphere where time simply stands still, allowing you to enjoy each moment. Their home is wonderfully decorated. We stayed in the Chang Lai room which included a warm fireplace, double whirlpool bath, and a complimentary bottle of wine and homemade cheese and crackers. Breakfast, all four course mind you, was divine! We honestly didn't want to leave. It's obvious just how much love they've put into their home. We would definitely stay here again,..and again.

I visited the Elephant Walk Inn with my girlfriend for her birthday last Winter. I wasn't sure what to expect, but fell in love with the place as soon as I stepped place on the property. The atmosphere in the place was sublime. There were hidded treasures to find in every nook and cranny. The hostess (Rita) was one of the most friendly and welcoming people I've ever met and made us feel like we were at home. We stayed in the Chiang Mai, which featured a cozy electric fireplace, an EXTREMELY comfortable queen size bed, and a relaxing hot tub (complete with bath salts and anything for a romantic bath). Stillwater offers a great variety of romantic restaurants (and some less so ;)). We chose the Bavarian Gasthaus, a German restaurant. The food was delicious and is highly recommended. Easily one of the most memorable parts of the trip was the delicious 3 course breakfast. It's not recommended to sleep through the breakfast although the beds make it easy. I am planning on returning to the inn to experience all of the rooms and couldn't be happier with my experience.

We found the Elephant Walk B&B on the internet, and wondered whether it could live up to its promise. It more than met our expectations. Rita and Mike are wonderful hosts, the space (both inside and out) is magical, the breakfasts spectacular, and the waiting bottle of wine and cheese/fruit/homemade cracker platter an elegant touch. "Downtown" Stillwater is just a short walk away, with fine food and interesting shops.
We're already planning our next visit to the Minneapolis region to have an excuse to stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Elephant Walk over the weekend. I have been raving about it to everyone I have talked to since then. What a charming, relaxing end to the day. Our hosts were gracious. The room was restful and comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. There truly are not enough adjectives to properly describe the experience. If you are planning a stay in Stillwater, the Elephant Walk is a must!!

This wonderful old home is oozing with personality, comfort and charm. The owners, Rita and Mike, are warm and engaging and make you feel welcome from the start. I stayed in the Cadiz room and it was absolutely beyond wonderful. Plants everywhere, a beautiful terrace, the room furnished with pieces from all their travels and the most wonderful area for a soak in the whirlpool. Slip on the green terrycloth robe afterwards and go out onto the private terrace for a glass of wine while you lounge under the stars. The Elephant Walk is distinctively unlike any other. Oh, and the breakfast.....not only beautifully presented, but mouth watering scrumptious! Rita and Mike are truly gracious hosts and I know you would not be disappointed. I will be returning very soon. Thanks Rita and Mike for a most pleasant and enlightening stay.

My husband and I spent our first night as a married couple there. It was the gift of a friend. And he could not have had a better idea. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. When we arrived we were personally welcomed by Rita who had already prepared wine and a snack in our room. It was a a very warm welcome but we also had our privacy right away. The room was great. Nicely decorated, with a very comfy bed, a fireplace, a hottub, music and a porch with a fountain. Many flowers and details made the room the perfect place for us to stay. When we woke up there was coffee, tea and a newspaper waiting for us at the door. A little later there was a just incredible breakfast in front of the door. We could set our own table on the deck and have our first breakfast as a married couple in privacy.
Now we are planning to come back for one of our anniversaries.

My husband and I just returned from the most marvelous experience. I want you to know about it, so you can do it sometime.
We and another couple took off for Stillwater on Sunday where we checked into THE ELEPHANT WALK, a bed and breakfast. We had the most unusual rooms, beautiful, cozy, and decorated to the hilt. We took off and skied William O'Brien Park and then came back to our room. We had three types of cheeses, fresh grapes, unusual "crackers," wine, and a fabulous apple, all included in our room. Our fridge was stocked with Perrier, spring waters, and every kind of soda a person could imagine.
With the flick of a switch found by your bed, a fireplace went on! We enjoyed it right after the jacuzzi. The bed and bedding was all the best. I can't even explain how fabulous it was.
However, this morning, all stops were pulled out! We sat down to fresh coffee and then a beautiful 1/4 pineapple was set before us. It was cut length wise and then cut so you could pull out pieces of it and stick them in your mouth! I have never seen anything so creative and beautiful! Scones, homemade, were served with the pineapple.
The next course was stuffed French toast covered with fresh fruit! It was exquisite!
The next course was chocolate flourless cake with fresh whipped cream.
We sat with our hostess, Rita, for 2 1/2 hours visiting at breakfast because the woman is amazing. You would have to meet her to appreciate her story and her travels.
We loved the ELEPHANT WALK. It is a "de-stressor." Not a party place............It is relaxing and just wonderful. You can check it out on-line for a "virtual tour."

This was our second stay within 2 months! Our original stay came by as a result from a recommendation from a friend who has done much traveling. It is a wonderful escape from traditional Victorian Bed and Breakfasts. The Inn, hosted by Rita and Mike is filled with/and decorated with various treasures from their travels abroad. While there, you feel like time has stopped still and immediately begin to relax. There are four rooms, each with it's own unique theme. Each night you are treated with wine of your choice, and a basket of fruit, cheese and a wonderful crisp bread made by Rita and Mike. The food is incredible..unique, healthy, and plentiful. Rita and Mike are terrific hosts, warm and welcoming. The Elephant Walk is very close to downtown for those who care to do some shopping, and take in local eateries. Staying at the Elephant Walk is truly an experience. You will be well taken care of, and leave feeling like you visited a different world. We will definitely book again.

I am not one to write reviews however I think sharing my adventure is my responsibility.
If you are looking for THE best of experience then this B&B take the cake.
The house, Rita the owner, the rooms and all were one we will remember. I have stayed all lover the world
at wonderful places but I just love this place called The Elephant Walk in Stillwater,Mn.
I am an artist and color, and attention to detail is a necessity for me. The use of color and materials that you are surrounded with make this place beyond most people's experience.
I also loved the breakfast...This is what one might enjoy at a five star restaurant yet you feel a sense of family here.
I heard from a friend that Rita ,while living in Thailand ,had breakfast with the crowned prince every Thursday! It shows. Her stories are so much fun to listen to and I feel her motivation for this kind of service is just the expression of a great heart.
If you enjoy the regular...one that you may be able to tell toa friend and they too will have had the experience then stay some where else...But if you want to share a tale of your adventure then go to the Elephant Walk.
Each room invited me to stay...I will enjoy my next stay in the room where I can sit in the whirlpool which shares a wall with ta 4 foot aquarium.
No where is it written that a B&B owner needs to offer such quality. The duvet cover in my room was a hand tailored 4 ply hand woven silk in the most beautiful irredescent green.
It was a wonderful time only spoiled by the limit of a 2 night stay.

The Elephant Walk is a 4 room bed and breakfast in historic Stillwater. The best way to describe the home is to say that it's very fancy and beautiful and at the same time we had no problem putting my feet up to relax. We stayed in The Raffles which is a generously sized room with a queen bed, two easy chairs with ottomans, a two person whirlpool bath, an aquarium with fish, a fireplace, a separate bath with clawfoot tub and shower, a mini fridge stocked with water and sodas, air conditioning, and a great decor. The other rooms are just as beautiful. The difference is that they vary a bit in size in size and style but not in comfort or taste.
We came to the property because of a pet allergy - my parents live a few doors down and the cat or dog (not sure which) hair was turning me into a sneeze and sniffle machine. Most people would book this for a romantic getaway and let me tell you, it's very romantic and despite my parents proximity to the property - it was still quite a getaway :)
We didn't book in advance since we hadn't planned the stay. However we HIGHLY recommend you DO book in advance especially if you fall in love with a particular room or if you plan to stay over a weekend. The word is out on this property - we aren't the only ones who know about it. We wanted to spend our entire trip here but the rooms are booked for much of our time in town.
Rita and Mike are the property owners and they made us feel so welcome. We were filled to the brim with goodies from the bottle of wine and basket with cheese, fruit, nuts, and homemade crackers each night to the fresh fruit and scones at breakfast. There is a full 4 course breakfast each morning at 9 in addition and it's gourmet to boot! They recommended restaurants in the area (I've been away for a long time so I don't know the local scene anymore) and chatted with us at breakfast to let us know what was going on. Somehow they always knew what we needed - whether it was privacy or food or a little chatter

This charming B&B exceeded all of our expectations. The attention to detail was amazing and the solitude and relaxing atmosphere was wonderful. It was our daughter's first time B&B experience and she enjoyed it so much. Rita is an amazing chef and each meal was an absolute delight. We also enjoyed Rita's refreshing look at the world in general and her gracious manner. We will surely return.

My husband and I received a gift certificate to the Elephant Walk - we decided on a little getaway. The house is BEAUTIFUL. Rita and Mike the owners are warm and welcoming. We truly couldn't be happier with our experience. We stayed in the the Cadiz Garden Suite which was just beautiful. I really couldn’t pick my favorite part about the room was it the whirlpool bath amongst the lovely plants? Was it the private balcony with the charming gurgling fountain? Or the great bed with the down pillows and comforter? Or the lovely gas fireplace? Oh or the rain shower head in the bathroom? It was such a treat to have wine and cheese in the room when we arrived - the breakfast was superb and we didn't even get the full course (my husband had gotten called into work)
We are eager to buy gift certificated for our friends and family so they can have an experience similar to ours - and we can't wait to go back. The one regret we have is not booking a longer weekend. We have stayed at other B&B’s and not have been as happy as we were with the Elephant Walk – I need to note as well I am six and a half months pregnant and if anyone is going to be critical or hard to please it’s me in this swollen state and I have to say I was more than pleased with the service starting with the phone call I made to Mike to make a reservation till being walked out upon our departure by Rita. We will be back!

Wow! My friend told me this was a fantastic place and she was right! We were greeted at the door with a basket of wonderful cheese, fruit and thin crispy homemade crackers along with a bottle of wine. Now, I have always been disappointed in B&B's- My experience was they were not much more interesting than a cluttered hotel room-but this place! It was like stepping back in time to a victorian home in Colonial India or the far east! Wonderful treasures surround you while you are treated to modern luxuries like a double jacuzzi, a warm gas fireplace and a sumptuous bed and fine linens. After a wonderful sleep in the cozy room we were treated to one of the best breakfasts I have had anywhere- fresh fruit-perfectly ripe, excellent stuffed french toast, scones, and a dessert of flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and real whipped cream. Rita an Mike are the perfect hosts- friendly, interesting and interested in you. We are going back for our birthdays, anniversary, and any time we need to feel pampered!

My husband and I just got back from a trip to the Elephant Walk B & B in Stillwater, MN. We chose the Elephant Walk because the food on their website looked great and to be perfectly honest the 1st B&B I called was booked - good thing for us!
The food was fabulous! Rita and Mike were wonderful hosts. We stayed in the Chaing Mai room and it was beautiful. Everywhere we looked there was something to see and something interesting to read. The rooms were pleasing to the eye without being overwhelming as so many B & B's are. It was a friendly and inviting atmosphere everywhere we turned.
Both of us truly felt like Rita had welcomed us into her own home. Besides everything else, the little extras really made this the best B&B experience I have ever had. IN OUR ROOM WAS: a CD player with an assortment of CD's, reading lights beside the bed, a whirlpool tub, bubble bath, bath salts, candles, a gorgeous gas fireplace, a balcony, a small fridge filled with complementary drinks, chocolate goodies, and as if all of that wasn't enough, everyday we enjoyed a different bottle of wine, homemade crackers, and cheese right in our room!
I couldn't possibly rate this B&B any higher (and I am not one to overexagerate). There are a number of B & B's in Stillwater, MN - that being said, I will definately come back to this one before ever trying another! Take my advice and stay at this B & B - You will not be disappointed.
