The Island Hotel Bed & Breakfast Description:
The Island Hotel Bed & Breakfast in Cedar Key, Florida is on the National Register of Historic Buildings, and is one of Florida's most famous Bed and Breakfasts. Built in 1859, the Island Hotel is constructed from seashell tabby with oak supports. Its walls have withstood hurricanes for almost 150 years, and its sloping wooden floors have survived the passage of innumerable feet. Built as the general store and post office, it has changed little over the years.
Sit on a rocker on the long balcony and watch the sun set over the Gulf, relax in our informal and cozy lounge bar, painted in 1948 with murals of Cedar Key and King Neptune, for whom the bar is named, the only bar in Levy County without a television! Or just spend a relaxing morning or evening in the hotel lobby and reflect on years past when the lobby of a hotel was the center of social activity. Strike up a conversation with a stranger who is looking for just exactly what you are...a relaxing and comfortable break from the hectic world that exists outside of Cedar Key!

Other Amenities ...
To preserve the romantic and traditional ambiance, there are no televisions or telephones in the rooms of the main hotel. Some of the hotel rooms have old fashioned claw- foot tubs (bubble bath provided!), some showers and some tub and showers. They all have the original hand-cut wooden walls and floors, and are centrally heated and air conditioned. Guests may use the upstairs lobby and the balcony, where you may relax in our rocking chairs. Or enjoy the double swing, where many couples have succumbed to the romance of the hotel and become engaged. Some also come back and get married here! Rooms are non-smoking.
All of our rooms have private bathrooms. The rooms have traditional ceiling fans. The room rate includes a full breakfast each morning, either in our dining room or on our screened porch. Breakfast includes fresh brewed Columbian roast coffee or imported and herbal teas, fruit juice, toasted home- made bread, and a choice of the house- specialty cooked breakfast.
