Built prior to 1870 (before Colorado became a state), the Alps was originally known as the Topeka Colonies and later the Hadley Cottages. The property served as a stage stop and resting spot for those traveling to and from Boulder's mining districts. In 1905 the property was completely remodeled and renamed the Alps Hotel and Resort.
