Power's Mansion Bed and Breakfast Description:
An Elegant Bed & Breakfast in the Heart of the Gold Country. Victorian Elegance in the Sierra Foothills. Built from a gold-mining fortune in 1898, and lovingly restored to its original Victorian grandeur by its owners, the landmark Power's Mansion offers visitors the hospitality of a country inn and the attentive service of a small, elegant European hotel.
Yesterday
When gold was discovered in the Sierra Foothills in 1848, the California Gold Rush was on! North Fork Diggins, later renamed Auburn, became the first major crossroads of the state, where the Mother Lode Highway met the first transcontinental railroad. By the 1850's, Auburn had grown into a prosperous community. The Power's Mansion, with its ornate Victorian architecture and full city block of shaded grounds, quickly became a landmark among the many graceful homes that sprang up in the pine-covered hills and valleys.
Today
The Power's Mansion Inn offers executive travelers and visitors modern comforts and conveniences, while retaining the charm of a grand Victorian home. Auburn remains a lively center for both recreational and commercial activity. The lakes and rivers of the heavily forested high country have facilities for fishing, gold-panning and every water sport. Hunting, hiking, horseback riding, golf and snow skiing are also nearby. In Old Town, antique shops, retail stores and eating establishments occupy the century-old brick buildings that line its narrow streets. Visitors to The Power's Mansion Inn are treated to comfort and elegance, gold country-style.
