Cold Spring Inn Description:
A secluded treasure in the heart of the Holy Hill area of the Wisconsin Kettle Moraine, Cold Spring Inn prides itself on protecting and conserving our part of the native landscape. This beautiful site includes a river valley with lush fens, surrounding wooded hills, and a restored tall-grass prairie.
On arrival, guests travel a secluded drive bordered by magnificent Norway spruce. A newly established vineyard spreads down to a half-acre organic vegetable garden. Potted wildflowers grow in our “native nursery”.
The sprawling lannon stone wings of the building, enhanced by the attached greenhouse solarium, reflect the natural landscape in an elegant living space that everyone visiting can enjoy. Two master ensuites located in the north wing are beautifully appointed with private fireplaces and whirlpool baths. A common living area on the first floor of this wing provides a small kitchenette and library. A separate private entrance from this wing leads out to paved walkways and patios highlighted by a water garden stocked with fish and water plantings.
A small putting green for the golf enthusiast is available for warm ups before a round of golf at one of the nearby golf courses. A private tennis court is available as well as a fishing pond that includes a pier and rowboat for guests to enjoy. Our hiking trails beckon the casual walker or the serious birder. Two foot-bridges cross the scenic Oconomowoc River. The Cold Spring Inn grounds are home to hundreds of native plant species. Sightings of white tail deer, wild turkeys, fox, and coyote are common. The river valley is a haven for birds. In winter, we offer ice skating, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The rolling wooded hills and miles of State-designated rustic roads in our neighborhood are perfect for longer walks and bike rides.
On chilly fall and cold winter days, a fieldstone fireplace is the focal point of the combined living-dinning and kitchen facilities located in the center of the inn. A third smaller guest room is located near this family living area. An attached deck on the “river side” of the Inn offers beautiful vistas of the river valley.
Each morning guests are greeted with a full gourmet breakfast including coffee, tea and fresh juices, a variety of cereals, muffins and sweet breads, as well as seasonal fruits, jams and jellies. In the evening, a wine and cheese reception awaits each guest. For meals and other activities, guests may chose the warm grand room, the plant-filled and cozy green house, or the elegant and quiet library. When weather permits, guests enjoy the front courtyard with its water garden, stream, and pond.
Major attractions near this lake-country retreat include biking, swimming, bird watching, golf, hiking trails, Fox & Hounds and The Copper Dock Restaurants, Holy Hill, Monches Farm nursery, horse back riding, boating on Lake Five and Friess Lake, canoeing, the Ice Age Trail, Glacier Hills Park, and Lowes Lake State Forest.
