Vendue Inn Description:
The Vendue Inn sits perfectly at the Waterfront, in the heart of the Charleston Battery just steps from unique boutiques and art galleries, mouth-watering restaurants, and fascinating museums for which Charleston is known. The accommodations at the Vendue Inn reflect the history of Charleston, from indulgent suites with fireplaces and whirlpool tubs to charming historic quarters in the inn's original style. Here exquisite comfort and attentive service are a way of life.
Located within the original walled city of Charles Town and founded by French Huguenots, the French Quarter has long been known as a distinctive and thriving neighborhood with an abundance of restaurants, theaters, art galleries, and unique shops. Vendue Range is named for the vendue masters or auctioneers, many of which had their establishments here.
Charleston's Vendue Inn was conceived from French Quarter exchanges built as early as 1783. These buildings were used to house a variety of goods sold by French merchants and traders. Many of the structures suffered during the Civil War, and were repaired and remodeled in the 1800s.
The Inn now features 66 tastefully appointed rooms and suites. All are carefully decorated with authentic antiques and 18th Century reproductions. The Vendue Inn received the Carolopolis Award, presented annually by the Preservation Society of Charleston. This award is presented to recognize “sensitive rehabilitation of historic buildings”.
Like many small luxury inns, we are a refreshing change from the anonymity of a large chain hotel. Unlike many other upscale hotels, we pride ourselves on offering personal, friendly service that keeps our guests coming back again and again. It's that balance of a down-to-earth staff, personalized attention, and elegant surroundings that allows us to make our guests feel so welcome.
Stroll through the Inn and discover something interesting around every corner and down every hallway — a family heirloom, an original artwork, a heritage quilt, and an antique replica. Your stay at the Inn is your special time away. Our wonderful atmosphere and our knowledge of Historic Charleston will make it one of the most delightful and memorable experiences you'll ever have.
Our Rooftop Bar & Restaurant offers perhaps the finest harbor view in the city, as well as dramatic rooftop views within the historic district. Our intimate restaurant, The Library, exemplifies the Inn's standards of excellence, offering progressive American cuisine prepared with a uniquely Charleston fair.
