Prairie House Inn was originally built in 1900, according to Clackamas County Cultural Resource Survey, and given it's historical name Moody-Eckerd House. This was the first home in Molalla to have water and electricity. Prairie House Inn is named for the design of the first "prairie house" by a creative group of architects in Chicago about 1893 known as the Prairie School. The plans of this design could easily be found in a Sears and Roebuck catalogue and spread westward. This style is one of the few indigenous American styles lasting two decades. After that, the influence faded as Frank Lloyd Wright heavily influenced the Prairie School designs. Today Prairie House Inn boasts its original old growth Douglas fir siding, flooring and millwork refinished to it's original luster.
The stately Prairie House Inn has been painstakingly restored back to its original glory keeping in mind that modern day commercial features have been added to accommodate it's guests. Historical paint colors were used to complement the design as well as furnishings from the era.
