The Veranda at
Harbor Springs is a landmark institution. It was built over 100 years ago in
Petoskey, Michigan, and pulled across the ice by horses to its present location in Harbor Springs. The Veranda has enjoyed a very colorful history and, for the past century, has welcomed guests and travelers as both a boarding house and a
bed and breakfast inn. The earliest documented owners were Edwin and Anna Ferguson, who came to
Harbor Springs in the 1870's. They were some of the first white pioneer settlers in the area.
The current owners, Marty and Lisa Sutter, purchased the property as a guest house. However, after learning of its history and contemplating its notable ambiance, decided to continue to share this prominent home with the public as a bed and breakfast. They undertook a major program to upgrade The Veranda and add to its elegance. Today, each room is furnished with original antiques, many of which are museum quality. Most of the rooms display original art from a variety of prominent local artists. The courtyard was expanded and a magnificent English-style country
garden was planted. As a result of the ownersÍ passion for Victorian-era antiques, The VerandaÍs appearance is continuously being transformed.
