Yankee Cricket Bed and Breakfast Description:
The Simonics, transplants from Cleveland, Ohio, fell in love with the central Massachusetts area since first visiting Sherry's Sturbridge sister thirty years ago. Annual visits deepened their affection for the area, its history, and its convenient location, which is rural but midway between and easily accessible to Boston and Hartford. Professional and family responsibilities delayed the decision until 2001, when they decided to relocate and build their home as a B & B.
Designed and decorated by Sherry, a commercial artist, the early American style is visible throughout: stenciled walls and floors in the entry, lavatory, and three-season porch; stone fireplaces; wide-plank floors; tin lighting fixtures throughout the home; and original murals of the local countryside covering the four walls of the dining room. Sherry also tends the hillside herb garden. Bill, who did much of the interior work and manages the B & B, has discovered latent talents like baking and hearth cooking. His delicious cherry almond scones are always available and the early morning smell of his bacon cooking on the hearth acts as a very gentle alarm clock.
On a stone ridge overlooking the Massachusetts countryside, Yankee Cricket Bed and Breakfast offers guests a quiet woodlands retreat from the tourist activities of neighboring Sturbridge and the hustle of the thrice-yearly Brimfield Antiques Fair. Innkeepers Sherry and Bill Simonic warmly welcome guests and introduce them to the amenities of a brand new home with the coziness of an authentic 18th century inn.
The home, a thousand feet from the country road, is set on 19 acres. Beyond the house is another ridge which opens to woodlands trails where activity-oriented guests may hike or snowshoe. The herb garden, fireplaced library, and Great Room hearth entice guests to kick off their shoes and relax with a book, a game, or quiet conversation.
