The Mansion was designed in 1886 by a prominent architect, H.M. Hansen for his own family, and it now a Historically Significent Building, as it has all its original Victorian detail -- Giananni & Hilgart stained glass, pocket doors and shutters, parquet floors, decorative fireplaces, carved wood, ceiling medallions, etc. Its 19th century artwork & furnishings reflect the home's original charm, and its 21st century conveniences such as central air, WiFi and our non-smoking policy all contribute to our guests' comfort. This is a very special place to stay, unlike anything in Chicago.
On the first level is a livingroom, dining room, half bath and full newly remodeled kitchen. There are four guest rooms to sleep 8 guests; we acn add 2 deluxe cots to house 9 guests. The Celestial Chamber has a magnificent hand-carved Victorian headboard over its queen bed, an en-suite carved marble sink, walk-in closet with built-in dresser, television enclosed in an antique casing,Bose radio/CD, and spacious desk. Its large bath has faux marble floors, dressing area and a large shower-for-two with Corian walls and seat.
The handsome master bedroom, The Architect's Quarters, offers a queen bed,sitting area with down-filled settee, antique carved desk, television enclosed in a fabulous antique armoire, Bose radio, two separate en-suite sinks, dressing room, and walk-in closet. It's quite luxurious with a stained glass window, decorative fireplace, tall pocket-shuttered windows, and many architectural details. Behind a pocket door the bathroom has the original over-sized clawfoot bathtub with hand shower on an in-laid marble floor.
The Parlour Suite has a seating area with widescreen LCD TV and DVD, coffeemaker, fridge and microwave, private sundeck with umbrella table, bathroom with shower and two guest rooms. The Lit Bateau Guestroom has two single beds, a large closet and antique hutch with a drop-down desk. The Art Nouveau Salon boasts an ornate queen bed and armoire designed by Marjorelle, the Father of Art Nouveau Furniture, plus a lady's desk and two night tables.
