I lucked out. I had not been to Cambria, but had wanted to, so when I got emailed from a travel site about this, I took a chance and decided to take a friend here for her birthday. Not only is Cambria just wondrous, but Pelican Cove turned out to be one of the best places there! Though my friend ended up not being able to make it, boy was I glad I'd decided to go by myself anyway (likely even better for couples, but I was perfectly happy there alone - something not usually so comfortable for me. The coast drive up thru Malibu to there was part of the joy of the trip.
After driving in very late (go earlier, it's too beautiful to miss), settling in to a small but absolutely lovely room, I awoke with absolute delighted surprise!! It truly was one of the loveliest places I have stayed...one of the most attractive in Cambria and the setting couldn't be better. The best street in Cambria to stay on if you like seeing the ocean.
Amenities and breakfast were very good. Loved the fresh waffle-maker: go hungry. Breakfast room lovelier than I expected: actually all of it was.
The only down side was I had let my friend talk me into cancelling one of the two nights of the reservation, and I so wished I had kept both!! I also wish the staff had told me about the afternoon wine and cheese: as the setting and ocean view there is glorious. Other than not being great tour directors, staff were gracious and accommodating about needs while at the Inn.
Between Hearst (I liked more than I expected to), the lovely town that I wished I'd had time to explore, only the gorgeous nature called during the day, as did a great plant and art studio next to a restaurant famous for their lemon ice cream: all of it made for more than a day of sightseeing... the pool at Pelican and just sitting and relaxing looking out over the ocean and sunset, too warranted more time!
