Carmel Walnut French ToastIn a saucepan combine 1 c. brown sugar, ˝ c. margarine, 2 T light corn syrup (Karo). Bring to a full boil, reduce to medium and simmer until thickened (about 2-3 minutes).Pour mixture into a greased 9x13” baking dish. Add a layer of chopped walnuts. Tear up assorted multigrain breads to make a 2” thick layer. Beat 6 eggs with 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/8 tsp. salt and 2 c. milk. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered 20-25 minutes @ 350 until puffed and lightly browned. Turn each serving upside down on the plate. No syrup necessary. Serves 6-8. |
